A bit of history
The Haas F1 Team made its debut in 2016, becoming the first American constructor to compete in Formula 1 since 1986. Founded by Gene Haas, the team was built on a cost-efficient model — purchasing as many components as allowed (notably from Ferrari) and leaning on established technical partnerships.
Led by the outspoken and charismatic Guenther Steiner (until 2023), Haas earned respect as a new team that scored points right out of the gate. Despite financial struggles, fluctuating form, and a few driver controversies, Haas has remained a fixture in the midfield with ambitions of climbing higher.
2024 Season
Drivers: Kevin Magnussen & Nico Hülkenberg
A challenging season continues for Haas. The VF-24 suffers from poor tire degradation and inconsistency across race weekends. While Hülkenberg often outperforms in qualifying, Sunday race pace is lacking, with the team frequently sliding backward. Magnussen struggles to keep up with the evolving midfield, and questions around the future driver lineup persist. Development focus is expected to shift toward 2025 as they aim to break free from the backmarker zone.
2023 Season
Drivers: Kevin Magnussen & Nico Hülkenberg
The season starts with promise but unravels due to the car’s notorious tire wear issues, particularly in hot conditions. Hülkenberg returns to F1 full-time and quickly becomes the team’s lead performer in qualifying, while Magnussen endures a tougher campaign. Haas finishes last (10th) in the constructors' championship, marking another difficult year, though the team benefits from improved operational stability and begins restructuring its technical leadership.
2022 Season
Drivers: Yuki Tsunoda & Pierre Gasly
After the turbulence of 2021 and the exit of both Mazepin and Uralkali sponsorship, Magnussen returns and delivers a remarkable P5 finish in Bahrain. The car is much improved, though inconsistent. Mick Schumacher scores his first career points but crashes prove costly. The team finishes 8th in the standings but opts not to renew Schumacher’s contract. Despite mid-table status, Haas reestablish themselves as a respectable and independent outfit.
