A bit of history
The team now known as Racing Bulls has one of the most unusual trajectories in F1. It started life as Minardi in 1985, beloved by fans for its grit and underdog spirit despite its lack of resources. In 2006, Red Bull purchased the team, transforming it into Scuderia Toro Rosso, a junior squad meant to develop young talent — most famously Sebastian Vettel, who delivered their first win at Monza in 2008.
In 2020, the team was rebranded as AlphaTauri, Red Bull’s fashion brand, and began punching above its weight with midfield success. Now in 2024, they’ve relaunched again as Visa Cash App RB F1 Team (aka Racing Bulls), blending commercial appeal with a renewed sporting ambition under a more independent, yet still Red Bull-linked, structure.
2024 Season
Drivers: Yuki Tsunoda & Daniel Ricciardo
With a fresh name and a clearer direction, Racing Bulls aim to solidify their place in the midfield. Yuki Tsunoda continues to mature, consistently challenging for points, while Daniel Ricciardo brings veteran racecraft and leadership after his mid-2023 comeback. The RB01 car shows improved balance and straight-line speed, with occasional Q3 appearances. Internal restructuring and closer tech alignment with Red Bull Racing hint at long-term ambition.
2023 Season
Drivers: Yuki Tsunoda, Nyck de Vries, Daniel Ricciardo, Liam Lawson
A rollercoaster season with four different drivers. Rookie Nyck de Vries struggled to adapt and was replaced mid-season by Ricciardo. An injury to Ricciardo opened the door for Liam Lawson, who impressed with strong drives — especially in Singapore. Tsunoda showed flashes of pace but was inconsistent. The team finished P8 in the constructors’ standings, salvaging key points late in the season and confirming their lineup for 2024.
2022 Season
Drivers: Yuki Tsunoda & Pierre Gasly
A disappointing drop-off from their 2021 highs. The car lacked downforce and struggled on most circuits, especially in qualifying. Gasly and Tsunoda fought hard but couldn’t consistently break into the points. Gasly left the team at season’s end to join Alpine, ending a long and successful chapter. The team fell to ninth in the standings — a wake-up call for organizational change.
