George Russell secures pole position for British Grand Prix, outpacing Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton in qualifying at Silverstone, England.

Following his victory in the previous race in Austria due to a collision between Lando Norris and Max Verstappen, Russell is aiming for his third career win, while Hamilton is targeting his ninth British Grand Prix victory.

Russell later stated: "What a feeling, at the start of this year I don't think we could of even dreamt of being on pole here, one-two for me and Lewis, and Lando it's just mega. It's down to these fans as well they give us so much energy so thank you for that.

"The car at the moment is feeling so good, it really came alive in qualifying and what a joy to drive around this circuit. We are riding this wave at the moment and I'm absolutely buzzing, but eyes on tomorrow, we've got a race to win and it's going to be tight with Lando, Max is going to be fast as well but I'm so excited right now."

For the first time ever at Silverstone, Lando Norris secured a top-three grid position alongside two other British drivers. However, he decided to abandon his final lap in Q3 just before reaching the finish line.

"I'm happy with P3, three Brits lock out the top three so that's pretty cool here," Norris said afterwards. "There were good laps by George and Lewis both they put in some nice laps and a little mistake from my part at the end but P3 is still good."

Hamilton stated: "Big thanks to this incredible crowd; three Brits in the top three. And congratulations to George, he did such an amazing job.

"We definitely didn't expect to be front row this weekend but this is huge for us. The car felt fantastic. Everyone in the garage, all our team that have come here really deserve this.

Championship leader Max Verstappen had to settle for fourth place after running slightly wide at Chapel on his final lap, placing him ahead of the second McLaren of Oscar Piastri in fifth.

Nico Hulkenberg will start sixth for Haas, followed by the fastest Ferrari of Carlos Sainz, Lance Stroll from Aston Martin, Alex Albon in ninth, and Fernando Alonso in tenth.

Charles Leclerc narrowly missed out on a spot in Q3 by 0.159 seconds as drivers improved in the drying conditions until the end of Q2.

Starting ahead of Logan Sargeant's Williams in 12th, Yuki Tsunoda's RB in 13th, Zhou Guanyu's Sauber in 14th, and Daniel Ricciardo's RB in 15th, the Ferrari driver will begin in 11th.

Sergio Perez faced more pressure after spinning out of Q1 when switching from intermediate tires to slicks. His Red Bull twitched mid-corner, causing him to run wide onto the damp run-off area and into the gravel, where his car got stuck.

Perez, who has only scored 15 points in the last five rounds, finds his position alongside Verstappen increasingly uncertain despite news of a contract renewal before the Canadian Grand Prix. He will line up in 19th place on the grid, just ahead of Pierre Gasly, who was already due to start from the back due to an engine penalty.

Valtteri Bottas missed out on a spot in Q2 by 0.502 seconds and will start 16th after struggling to put together a competitive lap in the mixed conditions at the end of Q1. Kevin Magnussen will start 17th for Haas, followed by Esteban Ocon in 18th, and Perez and Gasly in 19th and 20th.
