Lewis Hamilton Clarifies Frustrations with Mercedes After Singapore GP

Hamilton, wearing a black racing suit and earphones, looks down with a focused expression.

Lewis Hamilton recently made waves on social media following his fiery reaction to Mercedes’ strategy call at the Singapore Grand Prix. After qualifying in a strong third position, right behind title contenders Lando Norris and Max Verstappen, Mercedes opted for an aggressive strategy: starting Hamilton on the faster but less durable soft tyres. The idea was to use the added grip to gain an early advantage over the front runners.

But things didn’t go according to plan. Hamilton struggled to make the anticipated early gains, and by the time the race ended, he had fallen to sixth place. Meanwhile, his teammate George Russell, who had started on the more conservative medium tyres like the other front-runners, managed a fourth-place finish.

At 39 and with his move to Ferrari on the horizon, Hamilton didn’t shy away from sharing his disappointment. Speaking candidly at a sponsor’s event after the race, the seven-time world champion expressed his frustration, admitting he felt "perplexed" and "so angry" at the outcome.

Mercedes themselves acknowledged their misjudgment, with technical director James Allison calling it a “clear mistake.” Now, Hamilton has taken to Instagram to offer a more measured response, showing his support for the team while addressing the situation head-on.

"I know there's been a lot of chat about our strategy in Singapore, and it just didn’t work," Hamilton wrote in a heartfelt post. "When that happens, it’s natural to feel frustrated, and I can speak out in that frustration."

He explained that the team knew starting on soft tyres was a risky call but one they agreed upon collectively. "We also miscalculated what others might do," Hamilton added.

Despite the misstep, Hamilton reassured fans that his relationship with Mercedes remains strong. "Make no mistake though, things are cool with the team. Like in any successful partnership, you have to go through some lows to experience the highs," he continued.

"We’re not afraid of those tricky conversations, and that’s why we’ve achieved so much together. It’s all love."

Hamilton's message is a reminder that even in the world of high-stakes racing, where tempers can flare, it’s the strength of the bond between driver and team that ultimately defines success.
