Verstappen beats Leclerc to claim victory in the sprint race held in Miami.

Max Verstappen secured another victory as he moves closer to his anticipated fourth title by outpacing Ferrari's Charles Leclerc to win the Miami Grand Prix sprint race.

During the 19-lap race held on Saturday preceding Sunday's main grand prix qualifying session, Leclerc crossed the finish line 3.3 seconds after Verstappen, with the second Red Bull driven by Sergio Perez finishing 1.7 seconds behind in third place.

Daniel Ricciardo achieved his best result in any race format since the 2021 Russian Grand Prix by finishing fourth, the same position in which he qualified.

During the race, the RB driver initially moved up to third place on the first lap but later fell back behind Perez on lap five. He then successfully defended his position against Carlos Sainz, who finished in fifth place, for the remaining 14 laps.

Following an incident that took out his McLaren teammate Lando Norris on the opening lap, Oscar Piastri secured sixth place. Norris became a casualty of a collision between the two Aston Martins at Turn One, triggered by Lewis Hamilton's move on the inside that resulted in contact with Alonso.

During the incident, Norris was forced to retire on the spot, whereas Alonso suffered a puncture and fell to the back of the pack.

An investigation is underway regarding Norris crossing the track on foot to reach the pits while the race was still ongoing.

Nico Hulkenberg secured seventh place for Haas, adding another two points to his total for the 2024 season.

Initially finishing in eighth place, Hamilton engaged in a fierce battle with Kevin Magnussen, who went off track four times to defend against the Mercedes. Magnussen received a total penalty of 35 seconds, while Hamilton was later relegated to 16th position for speeding in the pit lane after the race concluded.

As a result of Hamilton's penalty, Yuki Tsunoda moved up to eighth place, securing the final points-scoring position.
