Red Bull's involvement in the Formula 1 scene extends beyond just racing, as they are now looking to offer Daniel Ricciardo a non-driving role within their empire. Dr Helmut Marko, a key figure at Red Bull, has confirmed this new opportunity for the 35-year-old Australian.
After his final Formula 1 race in Singapore, where he was replaced by the young talent Liam Lawson, Ricciardo seems to be transitioning into a different phase of his career within the Red Bull family.
Despite ruling out a move to IndyCar due to his fears, Ricciardo has proven to be a valuable asset in terms of PR and marketing for Red Bull in the past. His charisma and popularity have made him an effective representative for the brand.
According to Marko, the door is open for Ricciardo to take on a similar role once again. This position would allow him to continue contributing to the team's success off the track, showcasing his talents beyond just driving.
“We’ve had some conversations, and we’re clearly interested,” The Austrian, who is 81 years old, stated. “He’s one of the most popular drivers, especially in the United States.
“He wants to take some time to decide about his future,” Marko included. “I don’t think he will go to another category. On the other hand, if he is not racing anymore, does he still want to do those PR things?
“He has a lot of money so it’s up to him how he wants to shape his future.”
Red Bull Racing is currently experiencing an intriguing and captivating phase, especially with the ongoing speculation about Sergio Perez's position in the team.
Marko expressed concerns that the swearing incident could potentially lead Max Verstappen to contemplate an unexpected early retirement.
He said “If it all gets ruined for him even more, then he is the type that says ‘Ok, that’s it’. He really means it,”
“We spoke at length on Tuesday. He still has to do some media activities, but otherwise he can now rest. He has to be ready for the long and exciting title fight.”
If Verstappen were to leave, Red Bull is already considering George Russell as a potential replacement. Russell's current contract with Mercedes only secures his place in the team until the end of 2025.
“Russell is equal to or even faster than (Lewis) Hamilton in qualifying,” Marko stated. “But I’m focusing on our juniors first.”
Nevertheless, Marko is also considering Franco Colapinto, who, even though he is currently contracted to Williams, was recently proposed to be loaned to Audi-Sauber for 2025.
“Yes, although he is part of the Williams team,” The Austrian stated. “But that can change. He does not have a seat for next year.
“I see that he has potential in the future, after what he showed in Baku and Singapore, but now we want to see what our juniors can do. And (Yuki) Tsunoda can still be considered a junior.”
