A bit of history

The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix joined the Formula 1 calendar in 2009, becoming the sport’s first-ever twilight race — starting at sunset and finishing under floodlights.

  • Held at Yas Marina Circuit on Yas Island, it was designed from the outset as a showpiece event

  • The race has frequently served as the season finale, including multiple title deciders

  • Symbolizes F1’s Middle Eastern expansion and its push toward spectacle and high-end branding

Strategic and Technical Profile

  • Yas Marina is now a medium-speed track with good overtaking zones

  • DRS zones are key — especially on the long straights

  • Tire degradation is moderate, with one-stop or two-stop strategies depending on temperature

  • The changing light conditions make car balance tricky as track temperature drops mid-race
