A bit of history
The Azerbaijan Grand Prix is one of the youngest events on the F1 calendar, first held in 2016. It takes place on the Baku City Circuit, a dramatic street course running through the capital city of Baku, blending historic landmarks with modern infrastructure.
In 2016, the race debuted under the name European Grand Prix, before switching to Azerbaijan GP in 2017
Despite its short history, it has already delivered chaotic, high-stakes, and memorable races
Iconic Moments
2017: A controversial clash between Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton during a safety car period shocked the paddock — Vettel was penalized for swerving into Hamilton.
2018: Red Bull teammates Verstappen and Ricciardo crashed spectacularly, taking each other out mid-race.
2021: Max Verstappen crashed out from the lead due to a tire failure just five laps from the finish. Lewis Hamilton went straight on at Turn 1 during a restart while trying to win, handing the victory to Sergio Pérez.
2023: Hosted the first Sprint + Grand Prix format weekend under a new revised format, with separate qualifying sessions for each.
