A bit of history
The Belgian Grand Prix has been part of the Formula 1 World Championship since its inception in 1950, making it one of the longest-running and most iconic events in the sport’s history.
Traditionally held at the legendary Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps
Occasionally hosted at Zolder (1970s–80s) and Nivelles, but Spa remains its spiritual home
Known for unpredictable weather, enormous elevation changes, and high-speed drama
It’s consistently a driver and fan favourite, considered a true test of both car and courage.
Legendary Moments
1966: Jackie Stewart suffered a horrific crash, leading to a major push for safety reforms
1998: A pile-up in wet conditions took out 13 cars; later, Schumacher collided with Coulthard in the pits — one of F1’s most chaotic races
2000: Mika Häkkinen passed Michael Schumacher with a daring move involving backmarker Ricardo Zonta — often called one of the greatest overtakes in F1 history
2021: The shortest race in F1 history — just 2 laps behind the safety car due to torrential rain; half points were awarded
