A bit of history
The British Grand Prix holds the special honor of being the first-ever Formula 1 World Championship race, held at Silverstone Circuit on May 13, 1950. That inaugural race was attended by King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, making it one of the first truly royal events in motorsport.
It has been a part of every F1 season since 1950, one of only two ever-present Grands Prix (alongside Italy).
Over the years, it rotated briefly between Silverstone, Brands Hatch, and Aintree, but Silverstone became its permanent home in 1987.
Built on a former WWII airbase, Silverstone combines high-speed straights and sweeping corners with modernized facilities.
Famous sections include:
Copse: A flat-out right-hander for the brave.
Maggotts–Becketts–Chapel: A legendary high-speed sequence that tests downforce and driver reflexes.
Stowe and Club: Key overtaking zones
Lewis Hamilton — record 8-time British GP winner, the most by any driver at a single circuit in F1 history.
