A bit of history
The Chinese Grand Prix made its Formula 1 debut in 2004 at the Shanghai International Circuit, becoming the first ever F1 race held in China. Designed by famed architect Hermann Tilke, the circuit was part of Formula 1’s expansion into Asia in the early 2000s, alongside races in Bahrain, Malaysia, and Singapore.
The inaugural race was won by Rubens Barrichello (Ferrari)
The track was immediately praised for its modern facilities and unique layout
The event signaled China's growing interest in global motorsport
Memorable Moments
2006: Michael Schumacher won his 91st and final F1 race here, a wet-weather masterclass.
2007: Lewis Hamilton famously slid into the gravel while entering the pits, costing him a championship shot.
2012: Nico Rosberg claimed his first-ever Grand Prix win, also Mercedes’ first since returning as a constructor.
2019: The Chinese GP marked Formula 1’s 1,000th World Championship race.
