A bit of history
The first Mexican Grand Prix was held in 1963 at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, named in honor of brothers Pedro and Ricardo Rodríguez, two of Mexico’s most famous racing drivers.
Originally raced at high speeds with minimal safety features
Popular among fans but often chaotic due to crowd control and thin air
Dropped after 1970 due to safety concerns, particularly with uncontrollable spectator encroachment
The race returned in 1986 with a revised circuit and modern safety upgrades, but it was dropped again after 1992 due to track degradation and lack of investment. Thanks to a major renovation led by Hermann Tilke, the circuit returned to the calendar in 2015 as the Mexico City Grand Prix, even though it's still held at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez.
