Schumacher has joined forces with Alpine to participate in its A424 Hypercar this season, looking to make a comeback to top-level competition following a year as a reserve for the Mercedes F1 team.

Despite continuing his reserve role with Mercedes in 2024, there have been rumors suggesting that Schumacher might have the chance to pilot one of Alpine's Formula 1 cars.

However, Alpine's team principal Bruno Famin has dismissed such speculations, making it clear that Schumacher's agreement is specifically for endurance racing, and any potential driving of their F1 car will be managed by reserve driver Jack Doohan.

Famin was asked if there were any intentions to provide Schumacher with an opportunity to test current or older cars. “No, we cannot.

“We don't plan because we have a reserve driver with Jack Doohan, and Mick is the Mercedes reserve driver. The contract we have with Mick is exclusively for endurance.”

Schumacher has made it clear that he is still interested in making a comeback to the F1 grid. His connections with Alpine might facilitate an opportunity at the team in case the current drivers Esteban Ocon or Pierre Gasly depart at the end of the season.

Famin commented on the team's selection for 2025, stating: “We have a lot of options.

Mick Schumacher is already an Alpine driver, and for the time being, we're really happy with Esteban and Pierre.

“Nobody knows when the silly season will really start. We had quite a strong input weeks ago [with the Lewis Hamilton/Ferrari news] but nothing happened after.

“I think it's going to be at the next step when the season is going to be really silly. Then we need to be prepared and we are preparing all possibilities. But again, we're happy with Esteban and Pierre.”

Famin stressed the importance of his team carefully considering their lineup for 2025 before making any decisions.

“There is no pressure on the driver side,” he said. “We're happy with our drivers, and we will see in due time.”
